Working 9 to 5

Work is not separate from life—it is part of it. Every action, every task, holds the potential for presence, for awareness, for meditation. This practice is about shifting from doing to being, from effort to ease, from mindlessness to mindfulness.

A Practice of Presence in Action

Before you begin work, pause. Breathe in deeply, and as you exhale, let go of whatever heaviness you’re carrying. Do this a few times—letting the breath clear the way.

Now, step into your task. Whether it is writing, cleaning, building, speaking—do it fully. Feel the weight of your hands, the rhythm of your movements, the texture of each action. Let work be more than a means to an end. Let it be an offering.

If distraction comes, return to the breath. If frustration arises, soften into it. Let each moment of work be a moment of awareness. Not rushing, not resisting—just being.

When the task is done, pause again. Notice the shift, the feeling of completion. Carry this into the next thing, the next movement, the next breath.
